Our Project
Our Girl Scout Gold Award project is designed to help the larger, world community. It was picked because of our pride of our heritage and culture. One of us is Indian, and the other, part Pakistani. Since elementary school we have been inseparable. Our own countries fighting seemed irrelevant, we were still friends. Therefore, we picked the Kashmir region as the primary focus of our project.
Our project consists of 3 distinct branches. Firstly, we aim to send solar-powered flashlights to the people of the Kashmir region. Additionally, we shall create awareness within the United States about the difficulties that Kashmiris are facing in this day and time. Lastly, through letter-writing, we will begin a process of communication between youth in Texas and Girl Guides in Kashmir and/ or India and Pakistan, in order to create a bridge of understanding.
We are pleased to announce that a generous offer has been made by an anonymous donor to match Bridge of Lights flashlight contributions, dollar for dollar. With this, we are hoping to send an additional package of 500 flashlights to Kashmir. These lights will go to students of other schools in remote regions in Pakistan and Kashmir.
